Clairton, Pennsylvania Former Koppers Clairton Plant

The 17-acre former Koppers Inc. Clairton Plant made chemicals used in aluminum manufacturing from waste products from the steel industry, but closed in 2016 due to the aluminum industry cutting production in the U.S.

The Project:

Koppers transferred all assets of the Clairton facility to CLP in October of 2018 in exchange for the CLP assuming full responsibility for facility decommissioning, demolition and site restoration.

Our Role:

  • Demolishing existing plant.
  • Decommissioning of all large storage tanks.
  • Asbestos abatement.
  • Soil remediation work to start summer of 2019 including site-wide cap and installation and new stormwater controls.
  • Industrial reuse is planned.
